CAT SNAKE

பாம்பென்றால் படையும் நடுங்கும்!!!
பாம்பின் கால் பாம்பறியும் !!!! (கை யார் அறிவார்?)


So, Here are a few collection of Snakes which are living in India (dont ask for address, email ID & mobile no.) !!!!!

A) CAT SNAKE:
Boiga is a large genus of mildly venomous, rear-fanged, colubrid snakes typically known as the cat-eyed snakes or just cat snakes.
There are 33 recognized species in the genus.




Description:

Body - typically thin, long bodied snakes with large heads and large eyes. Pattern and color - Greatly Vary (black, brown, or green with white or yellow accents.)
Many species have banding, but some are spotted and some are solid colored.

Venom Toxicity - Not generally considered to be life threatening to humans.
Mildly venomous, and bites on humans produce only local symptoms

1.Boiga ceylonensis:
Sri Lanka Cat Snake / Boiga ceylonensis, is found in Sri Lanka and the Western Ghats of India.

Colour - Brown or greyish above, with a series of blackish transverse spots or bands; nape with a blackish blotch, or three blackish longitudinal streaks, or a transverse bar ; a more or less distinct brown streak from the eye to the angle of the mouth ; lower parts yellowish, dotted with brown, usually with a lateral series of brown spots

Length - 4 feet long from tip to tip

Venom Toxicity - mildly venomous causing only local swelling. However bites near sensitive areas such as the eyes, neck and head could be serious.

2. Boiga dendrophila:
Gold-ringed Cat Snake or Mangrove Snake is biggest of cat snake species.
Has 9 sub-species.

Length - 6 to 8 feet

Body:
Above - Black, with or without yellow transverse bands, continuous or not extending across the back;
labials - yellow, with black edges.
Lower surface - black or bluish, uniform or speckled with yellow;
throat yellow.

Venom Toxicity - mildy-venomous, but moderate envenomations resulting in intense swelling

3. Boiga Dightoni:
Or Pirmad Cat Snake - Exclusively available in Pirmad, Kerala & Western Ghats.

Well, This is my first attempt in writing a blog, to be specific an article in the history of ARUN. This is not an attempt to create an impact in the web world. Just an attempt to document ME in the web.
